When a tooth needs to come out
Simple and surgical extractions, including wisdom teeth, performed with an oral surgeon on staff for added expertise.
We only recommend extraction when it's the right call
Whether it's a severely decayed tooth, a wisdom tooth that's impacted or causing crowding, or damage beyond repair, extraction is always a last resort after other options have been ruled out. Having an oral surgeon on staff means more complex extractions don't require an outside referral.
Simple vs. surgical extractions
Simple Extraction
For a fully erupted tooth, removed with local anesthesia in a straightforward, quick procedure.
Surgical Extraction
For a tooth that hasn't fully emerged, such as an impacted wisdom tooth, requiring a more involved surgical approach.
Replacement Options
Once healed, we'll discuss whether a dental implant, bridge, or denture is the right way to fill the gap.
Sedation options are available
For surgical extractions — like impacted wisdom teeth — performed with our oral surgeon, sedation options are available to make the experience far more comfortable. Learn more about sedation dentistry →
Tooth Extractions in Norwalk, CT FAQ
Does getting a tooth pulled hurt?
No, it does not hurt during the procedure — the area is fully numbed beforehand. Some soreness during recovery is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
How long is recovery?
Simple extractions typically heal within a few days; surgical extractions, including wisdom teeth, may take a week or more for full recovery.
Do I need my wisdom teeth removed?
Not always — it depends on whether they're impacted, causing crowding, or at risk of infection. We'll evaluate this with X-rays before recommending removal.
