Why It Matters

A dentist your kids won't dread

A child's early dental visits shape how they feel about going to the dentist for the rest of their life. We focus on making appointments comfortable and low-stress, explaining things in a way kids understand, and catching issues early — while their teeth and jaw are still developing.

01

First visits, done right

A calm, low-pressure introduction to the dentist sets the tone for how your child feels about dental care going forward.

02

Preventive-first approach

Regular cleanings, exams, fluoride, and sealants aimed at catching issues early, while a child's teeth are still developing.

03

Growing with your child

The same doctor and team from their first tooth through their teenage years, who actually know their history.

Common Questions

Pediatric Dentistry FAQ

When should my child first come to the dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth coming in — earlier than many parents expect.

When should my child start flossing?

As soon as two teeth touch each other, usually somewhere between ages two and three. We'll show you how at your child's visit.

What are sealants, and when should my child get them?

Sealants are a thin protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth, where cavities most often start. They're typically placed as soon as permanent molars come in, usually around age six and again around age twelve.

When does my child need a stainless steel crown?

When a baby tooth has significant decay too extensive for a filling alone, a stainless steel crown protects the tooth until it's naturally lost, avoiding an early extraction.

When should my child start orthodontic treatment?

Most orthodontists, including Dr. May Kim here at our practice, recommend a first orthodontic evaluation around age seven — early enough to catch developing issues, even if treatment itself doesn't start right away.
