ICON Resin Infiltration Treatment Guide
Fading white spots without drilling. Here is what to expect on the day and in the weeks after.
The Full Guide
ICON is a resin infiltration treatment for white spots in the enamel, including spots left behind after braces or clear aligners. A thin, liquid resin seeps into the tiny pores of the spot and is hardened with a light, so the spot blends in with the healthy enamel around it.
White spots are early changes in the enamel. ICON improves their appearance while keeping your natural tooth intact, because it needs no drilling and numbing is typically not needed. It does not whiten teeth, and it is not for cavities that have broken through the enamel.

No special prep is needed. Brush and floss as usual, and tell us about any sensitivity or past reactions to dental materials.
Your teeth are cleaned and your gums protected. A gel prepares the surface of the white spot and is rinsed away, the spot is dried, and the resin is applied, given a few minutes to seep in, and hardened with a light. A second application is often added, and the tooth is polished.
ICON is usually completed in a single visit.
Numbing is typically not needed, so there is no numbness to wait out. Where the prep gel touched your gums, they may look slightly white for a short time. This fades on its own, usually within about two weeks.
The treated spots look more natural right away. Brush gently as usual. No special tools are needed.
Any whitening at the gumline from the prep gel fades on its own. If you plan to whiten your teeth, wait at least two weeks after ICON.
Keep up careful brushing, flossing and fluoride to protect the rest of your enamel, especially if you wear braces or aligners. We will check the treated areas at your regular visits.
a treated spot looks rough or chipped, a spot you notice is changing or getting darker, or you have sensitivity that does not settle.
