Our Approach

Function and Beauty, Planned Together

A beautiful smile should also work well and last. Dr. Nguyen's approach is shaped by her training at the Pankey Institute, which teaches comprehensive, patient-centered dentistry: looking at the whole mouth and the whole patient, not one tooth at a time.

That means a thorough evaluation of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints and muscles comes first. The design of your smile then follows how you bite, chew and speak, because form follows function, so the result is comfortable, healthy and built to last.

FunctionEstheticsThe Whole PatientYour Smile
  • Function

How your teeth meet, how your jaw moves and how your muscles work together. A balanced bite protects your restorations and your comfort, so it is evaluated before any cosmetic change is made.

  • Esthetics

Shade, shape and proportions planned around your face, your smile line and your personality, so your results look natural rather than generic.

    About Veneers →
  • The Whole Patient

Your gums, bone, habits such as grinding and your long-term goals are all part of the plan, with conservative choices that protect healthy tooth structure. The aim is a lifetime of comfort, function, esthetics and health.

Veneers and Crowns: Choosing the Right Approach

The right approach depends on the condition of your teeth, your bite and your goals, and many smiles combine more than one.

Prepless (No-Prep) Veneers

Ultra-thin porcelain shells bonded over healthy enamel with little to no tooth removal. Best for modest changes in shape, spacing or shade.

About Veneers →

Minimal-Prep Veneers

A small amount of enamel is gently reshaped so the veneer sits flush, blends at the edges and can change color more predictably, which helps with yellowing.

About Veneers →

Crowns (e.max and Zirconia)

A crown covers the whole tooth and is made in one piece. e.max gives a natural look for front teeth that are decayed, worn or heavily filled, and zirconia, the strongest option, is often chosen for back teeth and for patients who clench or grind.

Materials

The Materials Behind Your Smile

Veneers and crowns can be made from different ceramics, each with its own strengths. Your dentist will recommend the material that fits each tooth.

Feldspathic Porcelain

The classic dental porcelain, prized for its natural translucency and depth of color. It bonds well to enamel and is typically used for ultra-thin veneers. It is the most delicate of the three.

Strength
Best For

Healthy enamel and a gentle bite.

Lithium Disilicate (e.max)

A glass-ceramic that balances strength and beauty. It is strong enough for veneers and crowns on front teeth, yet translucent enough to blend in naturally.

Natural Look
Strength
Best For

A versatile choice across many smile makeovers.

Zirconia

An extremely strong ceramic that resists chipping and fracture. Modern high-translucency zirconia looks far more natural than older versions.

Crowns where strength is the priority.

These are general descriptions. The best material for each tooth depends on strength, shade, bite and budget.

Common Questions

Cosmetic Dentistry FAQ

Whitening brightens your natural enamel but won't change shape or fix chips. Bonding is faster and less expensive, well-suited to small chips or gaps. Veneers are more durable and better for larger changes in color or shape, including staining whitening can't fix. We'll walk through which fits your goals during a consultation.

The Pankey approach is a comprehensive, patient-centered philosophy of dentistry. Before changing how your smile looks, Dr. Nguyen evaluates how your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints and muscles work together, so the result is functional and esthetic, and planned to last.

That's the goal. Treatment is planned around your natural proportions and shade, not a generic template, so results blend in rather than looking obviously "done."

A veneer is a thin shell bonded to the front of a tooth, so most of your natural tooth stays in place. A crown covers the entire tooth. Crowns are usually recommended when a tooth has decay, a large filling, a crack or heavy wear, while veneers suit teeth that are mostly healthy.

Feldspathic porcelain offers the most natural translucency and is typically used for ultra-thin veneers. E.max, a lithium disilicate ceramic, balances strength and beauty for veneers and crowns. Zirconia is the strongest and is often chosen for crowns where durability matters most. Your dentist will recommend the best fit for each tooth.

It depends on the type. Prepless veneers need little to no tooth removal, minimal-prep veneers need a small amount of enamel reshaping, and crowns require more tooth reduction. We will explain what your plan involves before treatment begins.

Yes. This includes prescribed medications, but also any recreational or non-prescribed drug use. Certain substances can seriously affect how your body responds to local anesthesia. We will never judge you for disclosing this. This practice was built around patient safety first, and what you tell us stays confidential.
