EXPAREL® →Specialized Surgical Training
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons complete additional hospital-based training after dental school. That training covers impacted teeth, surgical extractions, implant surgery, bone grafting, anesthesia and perioperative patient management.
It is additional training for a particular kind of work, not a comment on general dentists, who handle a great deal of surgical care well. What it means practically is that more involved cases can be managed here rather than referred elsewhere.
Implant Surgery and Restorative Dentistry, Planned Together
Dental implant treatment involves two parts: the surgical placement of the implant, and the final tooth or prosthesis that attaches to it.
Dr. Han coordinates surgical planning directly with the restorative dentists responsible for the final crown, bridge or full-arch restoration. Planning both phases together helps ensure the implant position supports the final dental result.
Consultation and Imaging
Dr. Han reviews your history, examines the area and obtains appropriate imaging when clinically indicated.
Surgical Planning
The surgical plan is made with the final restoration in mind, alongside the restorative dentist.
Implant Placement
The implant is placed surgically, with the anesthesia approach agreed in advance.
Healing
Healing time varies with implant stability, bone quality, any grafting and your individual plan.
Final Restoration
The restorative dentist completes the crown, bridge or full-arch prosthesis.
Long-Term Maintenance
Implants are reviewed at routine visits alongside the rest of your dental care.
Orthodontics and Oral Surgery, Coordinated When Needed
From teeth that have not come in to a tight lip attachment that holds the front teeth apart, these cases are planned together with orthodontist Dr. May Kim. Surgical Orthodontics explains how.
Impacted and Unerupted Teeth
Dr. Han can surgically expose an impacted canine or any tooth that has not come through, while Dr. May Kim guides it into position.
Exposure of Impacted Teeth →Orthodontic Extractions
When removal is part of an orthodontic plan, timing is coordinated between both teams.
Tooth Extractions →Frenectomy
A high lip attachment (frenum) can keep the upper front teeth apart. When closing a gap is part of the plan, Dr. Han can release the frenum and Dr. Kim can close the space, with the timing planned together.
Frenectomy →Jaw and Skeletal Evaluation
Patients with significant jaw discrepancies can receive coordinated evaluation when appropriate.
Jaw Surgery →Anesthesia Is Part of Oral Surgery Training
Anesthesia is a core part of Dr. Han’s surgical training and more than a decade of practice. Before recommending sedation, he reviews your medical history, medications, the planned procedure and your individual risk factors.

That depends on the procedure and anesthesia plan. You will be given specific instructions in advance, including anything about eating, medications or arranging a ride.
