PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) Recovery
A concentrate from your own blood, used to speed healing alongside an extraction, implant, or bone graft.
The Full Guide
Your own blood contains platelets packed with natural healing and growth factors. PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) concentrates those from a small blood draw (like a quick lab draw), and places the resulting material into a surgical site to speed healing and lower the risk of complications like dry socket.
Because PRF comes from your own blood, there's no rejection risk and no donor material involved. It's simply concentrating what your body already produces to speed things along. Adding it to an extraction, implant, or bone graft site can mean less discomfort, faster initial healing, and a lower chance of complications like dry socket.
Curious whether PRF makes sense for your upcoming procedure? Book a consultation and we'll talk it through.
There's no separate prep for the PRF step itself. Follow the before-appointment guidance for whichever procedure it's being paired with (extraction, implant, or bone graft). A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm, just like a routine blood test. It's spun in a centrifuge for several minutes to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich layer, then formed into a membrane or plug and placed directly into the extraction or surgical site, alongside that primary procedure. No numbing is needed for the PRF step itself; you'll already be numb from the primary procedure.
PRF doesn't add its own separate recovery. Follow the post-op instructions for whichever procedure it was used alongside. Many patients notice slightly faster, more comfortable healing as a result.
you notice any of the warning signs listed for the underlying procedure it was used with.
