Teen Orthodontics in Norwalk, CT
Orthodontics that fits school, sports and everyday life.
Braces and clear aligners with Dr. May Kim, chosen around your teenager’s bite, their routine and what they will realistically keep up with.
The Teen Years Are Often the Natural Window
By the teenage years most permanent teeth have come in, which makes it possible to correct crowding, spacing and bite problems comprehensively rather than in stages.
Treatment still has to fit real life: school, sports, instruments and everything else. That is part of the conversation at the consultation, not an afterthought.

Braces or Clear Aligners
Braces
Fixed to the teeth, so treatment continues without relying on anything being worn as instructed. Precise control for more involved crowding or bite correction.
About Braces →Clear Aligners
Removable and less visible, worn in a prescribed sequence. They only work while they are actually in, so consistency matters.
About Clear Aligners →Dr. Kim helps families choose the approach that matches both the orthodontic need and how realistically the appliance will be looked after day to day.
Fitting Treatment Around School and Activities
Sports
Ask Dr. Kim about a mouthguard for contact sports. Aligners come out for play and go straight into their case.
Band Instruments
Wind and brass players usually adapt within a few weeks. Mention it at the consultation so it is planned for.
Foods With Braces
Hard, sticky and chewy foods are the usual cause of broken brackets. Cutting things smaller helps. Aligners come out to eat.
Keeping Teeth Clean
Brackets trap more food, so brushing takes longer and flossing needs a threader. With aligners, brush before they go back in.
Hygiene Visits →School Photos and Events
Tell us if something important is coming up. It is worth factoring into timing where we can.
Appointments
Adjustments happen periodically rather than weekly. We will try to work around the school day.
What Treatment Actually Asks of Them
Aligners only move teeth while they are being worn, which for most plans means the great majority of the day and night. If that is unrealistic, Braces are often the more dependable choice, and there is no judgement in saying so upfront.
Either way, teeth need keeping clean and appointments need keeping. Dr. Kim will be straight with you about what each option requires before you commit.
Brackets, Wires and Lost Aligners
Broken Bracket
Uncomfortable but rarely urgent. Leave it alone, keep it clean, and call so we can arrange a repair.
What to Do →Lost Aligner
Go back to the previous aligner if you still have it and call us. Do not skip ahead to the next one.
What to Do →Teen Orthodontics FAQ
It depends on the case and on the person. Braces do not rely on being worn consistently, while aligners are removable and less visible. Dr. Kim will go through which is realistic.
Treatment length varies with the bite, how much movement is needed and, for aligners, how consistently they are worn. Dr. Kim reviews an estimated timeline before anything starts.
